Animal Masks

Soon after dropping a micro dose of Psilocybin, I was asked to review “Animal Masks”. I was a little apprehensive because of it’s deceiving cover art. I wasn’t sure if I could deal with, what I assumed may be some unsettling, disturbing tuneage, but I was wrong.

It starts off with a wah wah fueled, melodic opener, then proceeds to bring the listener on a 60’s garage, twangy guitar, inspired journey which teeters on psychedelia. I suspect this EP is a fun listen even without some mind expanding assistance. Cool & moody vocal hooks which sometimes seem, sung out of key, I suspect are somewhat intentional.

I found that suggesting comparable sounding artists or rather a fantasy mash-up reference, can intrigue people, so imagine Milo Aukerman (Descendants) teaming up with The Gin Blossoms after hanging out with Brian Jonestown Massacre.
If you can’t imagine what something like that might sound like, head over to their Bandcamp page and enjoy the melodic trip. I'm on my fourth listen, it's that good.
